Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri and Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici have inaugurated the Correctional Services Agency Pavilion, a new initiative forming part of the Malta Biennale.

The project promotes creative expression and personal development within rehabilitation facilities, supporting the government’s policy of inclusion and dignity within the community.

Addressing the event, Camilleri highlighted the participation of nine residents in the project, noting that their involvement reflects not only artistic talent but also the core values of discipline and respect.

He said that serving a sentence should not mean the end of ambition or self-expression, but rather a period of reflection that leads to genuine rehabilitation.

The Minister explained that the initiative emerged from the residents themselves and became possible through collaboration with the Biennale.

Bonnici said the 2026 edition of the Biennale continues to build on the success of its first edition, strengthening Malta’s role as a vibrant hub for cultural dialogue.

The exhibition, curated by Rosa Martínez, features more than 130 artists from 43 countries over an eleven-week programme.

The pavilion’s installation, 'Floating Fragments,' explores life as a series of episodes while encouraging dialogue between those inside the facility and the wider community.

The project also involves research support from students at Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, helping ensure its long-term sustainability.
