"Coral Becomes The Paint. Fish Become The Audience" : Local Designer Zack Ritchie Proposes Underwater Sculptures

Local designer Zack Ritchie proposed the inclusion of underwater sculptures on Maltese ocean floors.

Imagine diving into the sea and being met by art that slowly changes with the ocean,” explained Zack, “Coral becomes the paint. Fish become the audience. Time becomes the collaborator.”

This is something already being done abroad to help conserve underwater life.

Sculpture Jason deCaires Taylor for example created many statues such as “The Silent Evolution or Vicissitudes” and “Anthropocene” to promote the growth of new ecosystems which can take hold of these statues and flourish.

Since most of the ocean floor is too unstable to sustain reefs, building these statues allows for a space for coral to grow uninterrupted.
