COMMEMORATIVE COIN LAUNCHED FOR 25 YEARS OF FIREWORKS FESTIVAL

A special commemorative silver coin has been issued to mark the 25th anniversary of the Malta International Fireworks Festival, celebrating one of the country’s most iconic cultural traditions.
The coin, launched on 20 April 2026 by the Central Bank of Malta in collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority, is limited to just 1,000 pieces.
Struck in 0.999 silver, it carries a face value of €10 and features a colourful depiction of fireworks over the Grand Harbour on its reverse side.
The design highlights the vibrant displays that have become synonymous with the festival, while the obverse features the coat of arms of Malta along with the year of issue and face value.
The coin was produced at the Royal Dutch Mint, with engraving work by Pannos Goutzemisis and Noel Galea Bason.
Beyond its collectible value, the coin pays tribute to Malta’s long-standing fireworks tradition, which remains a central part of local festas and was recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2023.
This year’s Fireworks’ festival began in Nadur, Gozo, on 18 April and will continue at the Grand Harbour on 20 and 25 April, before concluding with a grand finale on 30 April. Around 40 local and international teams are expected to participate, showcasing a mix of traditional and modern pyrotechnic displays.
