Cold, Cloudy Weather Expected for New Year in Malta

The final hours of 2025 and the start of 2026 are expected to be marked by cold, cloudy conditions with occasional isolated showers across Malta.
On New Year’s Eve, skies will be mostly cloudy, with brief showers possible throughout the day. Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 16°C, dropping to around 12°C overnight. Winds will be moderate to rather strong in the morning, blowing from the west-northwest at Force 4 to 5, before easing and shifting to light northerly winds by the evening.
Similar weather is expected on New Year’s Day, Thursday 1st January. Clouds will persist, and isolated showers remain possible. Winds will veer easterly and strengthen slightly during the day before shifting to a south-easterly direction and easing to Force 3. Temperatures are expected to be particularly cold, with a maximum of 15°C and falling to around 10°C in the evening, as a cold air mass from Siberia dominates over Italy and the central Mediterranean.
More favourable conditions are forecast from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th January, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures above the seasonal average, rising by around 3°C over this period.
Historical records note the coldest New Year’s Eve in 2014–2015, when temperatures dropped to 2.1°C, while New Year’s Day 2024 was the warmest of the past decade, reaching 18.5°C.
