CLEANING OPERATIONS INTENSIFIED ACROSS MALTA DURING TOURIST SEASON

The Department for Cleansing and Maintenance is increasing its efforts to keep Malta and Gozo’s localities clean and well maintained throughout the busy summer months, with particular attention being given to areas that attract larger numbers of residents and tourists.
While cleaning and maintenance operations continue throughout the year, the department increases the frequency and intensity of its work during summer due to higher activity in public squares, promenades, coastal areas, and tourist zones.
The efforts were highlighted during visits carried out by Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli together with Permanent Secretary within the ministry Emil Vassallo.
Minister Zerafa Civelli said the department plays an essential role in ensuring that Maltese and Gozitan localities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. She noted that Malta’s growing popularity as a tourist destination makes it increasingly important to maintain public spaces to a high standard.
Vassallo explained that operations are carefully planned according to the needs of each locality, with additional resources allocated to areas experiencing increased summer activity.
Daily interventions include street and pavement washing, sweeping of roads and squares, cleaning and sanitising waste containers, and maintaining monuments and public spaces. Special attention is also given to coastal areas and beaches, where thousands gather daily during summer.
The department also carries out rapid cleaning operations following large events and festivals, ensuring public areas are restored as quickly as possible for communities and visitors.
