Cistern Reportedly Discovered In Tarxien After Road Caved In

A cistern has reportedly been discovered beneath a Tarxien Square road after it collapsed early this week.

Malta Daily has reached out to experts to inquire, but early reports suggest it might have been built by the Knights of Malta.

The Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) have confirmed that no one was injured after part of the ground collapsed during ongoing works in Tarxien Square.

In a joint statement, the authorities said they are on site together with other entities and immediately began technical assessments and investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any potential risks.

Infrastructure Malta also confirmed it is working closely with the OHSA, the BCA and the other competent authorities following the incident, which it described as having fortunately caused no injuries.

The agency said it is providing the necessary support and cooperation to the authorities and technical experts involved so that the required assessments can be carried out and the appropriate measures identified to safeguard the stability of the site.
