Chris Fearne Re-Elected To Lead Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group

Foreign Affairs Minister Chris Fearne has been re-elected to chair the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) for another two years, following a decision by member states during Commonwealth meetings in Antigua and Barbuda.
The appointment means Malta will continue to play an important role in the group, which is responsible for safeguarding the Commonwealth’s fundamental principles, including democracy, the rule of law, human rights and good governance.
Fearne stressed the need for the Commonwealth to take a more active role in protecting these values, particularly as democratic institutions around the world face growing challenges.
He said CMAG should not only intervene when crises arise, but also work to prevent them through dialogue and cooperation between member states.
During the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), Fearne also took part in discussions on protecting democracy alongside parliamentary representatives and civil society members.
He highlighted the importance of strengthening democratic institutions, ensuring transparency and giving citizens an active role in decisions that affect them.
The Minister also held several bilateral meetings with representatives from Commonwealth member states to strengthen Malta's diplomatic relations and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
