Chameleon Rescued After Being Found Trapped In Gozo Pool

A chameleon was rescued after being found trapped in a swimming pool in Qala, Gozo.

Thankfully, the chameleon hadn’t suffered any injuries and, after being checked, quickly showed it was ready to continue its wild adventures, the Wildlife team said.

‘Swimming pools can become unexpected traps for wildlife. While many animals are able to get into the water, the smooth sides often make it impossible for them to climb back out.’

‘If you have a pool, consider providing a simple wildlife escape route, such as a floating escape ramp or a board securely placed from the water to the edge. It can make all the difference for animals that accidentally fall in.’

‘Sometimes animals that are found in pools or buckets of water might seem ok, but they can be suffering from shock, hypothermia, exhaustion or they can even experience secondary drowning a few hours later. That is why it is important to call the wildlife rescue team before releasing the animal, so that we can check it over first.’
