Caruana Galizia Family “Fully Supports” Appeal Against “Abomination” Of A Verdict

Son of murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia has issued a statement stating that the Caruana Galizia family fully supports the appeal against, what he called, an “abomination of a verdict.”

“It is evil that must be retried. The alternative is a country where anyone can pay to blow you up, admit it on video, and get away with it all”, he continued.

“Our institutions and the people in them must use all their might to end this madness.”

This follows the 8-1 verdict which found Yorgen Fenech not guilty for his association in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Lawyers from the Office of the Attorney General submitted an appeal on Tuesday, just one day before the deadline, with Fenech’s lawyers getting 20 days to file submissions in response.

A retrial will then be considered by three judges in the Court of Criminal Appeal in its Superior Jurisdiction, based on whether there was a grave irregularity during the proceedings or the judgement was a ‘manifest misinterpretation of manifestly wrong application of the law.’

This can still be dismissed if no miscarriage of justice is found to have occurred.
