A group of Nadur Spontaneous Carnival goers took a dig at a recent Budget proposal, the iconic Fish Fridays.

The measure, announced during the Budget 2026 speech, would see students from schools around Malta being exposed to different fish culinary dishes to expand the breadth of tastebuds and traditional Maltese dishes.

The measure, Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said had explained, would see a different school being visited each week, where students and their parents get to taste different fish being expertly served.

The events will also see other educational material disseminated, including recipe books, all aiming to raise awareness about nutrition and a varied diet or children.

The initiative immediately went viral upon its announcement, and this year’s carnival spared no opportunity to take a cheeky jab at it.

The group even came with a Finance Minster costumed individual ready to (re)make the announcement.
