A car donated to Speaker of the House of Representatives Anglu Farrugia by a benefactor has been presented to Mater Dei Hospital to help patients who require transport for their medical treatment and dialysis sessions.

Following discussions between Speaker Farrugia and Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, it was agreed that the vehicle should be used to support patients in need. The car will therefore be dedicated to individuals suffering from kidney failure or other medical conditions that require frequent care and specialised transport.

During the presentation, the Speaker expressed his gratitude and solidarity, stating that the initiative reflects a commitment to serving people and improving their wellbeing. He said the gesture symbolises a wish to place public authority at the service of humanity. “This is not only the presentation of a vehicle but also a gesture of love towards others and for the common good,” he added.

Opposition Health Spokesperson Stephen Spiteri welcomed the initiative, describing it as a practical measure that will ease the travel burden for dialysis patients. He also highlighted the importance of ensuring such individuals receive all necessary support to attend regular treatment.

Minister Abela described the donation as a generous act that will help hundreds of patients reach and return from Mater Dei Hospital safely and comfortably. He thanked both the donor and the Speaker for their cooperation in making the initiative possible for the benefit of patients.
