Canine Teams Successfully Complete First Official Certification

Malta Police’s K9 Unit reached an important milestone by holding its first official certification process for its canine teams.
The certification was carried out by an external qualified certifier from the ASA Agency, an organisation that provides canine team certifications for law enforcement bodies, including the U.S. Military, the British Army, and various agencies across Europe and the United States.
The programme tested the teams across multiple search scenarios, including open areas, buildings, luggage, and vehicles. Both blank searches and positive finds were included to fully assess the teams’ operational skills.
While international standards require canine teams to demonstrate competence in three scenarios, Malta’s K9 Unit was tested in four and successfully completed all of them. This reflects their exceptional skill, discipline, and readiness to operate above minimum requirements.
This achievement aligns with Pillar 3, Priority 2 of the Malta Police Corporate Strategy (2025–2030), which aims to “foster a culture of growth and professional excellence.”
