Can Donald Trump Really Win The Nobel Peace Prize?
Local

At the United Nations General Assembly last September, Donald Trump stated, “Everyone says I should get the Nobel Peace Prize…I ended seven wars. No president or prime minister has ever done anything close to that.”

Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg, and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu agree with this sentiment, in fact, they proceeded to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 today and back in July, respectively. But the question remains; can Trump really win?

Some of the wars the President of the United States has taken credit for are helping end Israel’s two-year war on Gaza, unveiling a 20-point peace plan before a ceasefire was reached.

While critics point out that U.S. weapons and support enabled the war, Trump is believed to have pressured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu more than Joe Biden did to stop the fighting.

Trump also brokered a ceasefire between Iran and Israel after the U.S. joined the conflict by striking Iranian nuclear sites, actions he personally ordered. Iran retaliated by attacking a U.S. base in Qatar before a ceasefire was declared.

He announced a truce in the India-Pakistan aerial war in May, though only Pakistan credits him for mediation.

A Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire followed phone calls involving Trump, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Chinese negotiators.

Trump also brokered peace deals between Rwanda and the DRC, and between Armenia and Azerbaijan, though he later mistakenly referred to “Azerbaijan and Albania.”

He further claimed to have ended a war between Egypt and Ethiopia, despite no actual conflict existing between the two nations.

Donald Trump declared that If he is to lose the award, it would be a “big insult” to the U.S. Trump has already imposed 15% tariffs on Norway, so questions surrounding what will happen if he loses are buzzing.

It’s also important to note that any nominations made after July count towards Nobel Prize 2026. So whilst Netanyahu’s nomination may attribute to Trump winning this year, Ian Borg’s is more likely to aid Trump in getting the prize in the upcoming year.

The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced tomorrow.
