A monument commemorating Pawlu Curmi, l-Pampalun, has been installed at Ġnien il-Mandraġġ, to keep the memory of Malta’s very own Carnival King alive.

Pawlu passed away at the age of 92 in 2023, and was a face intimately linked to Malta’s carnival celebrations.

Curmi was always celebrating with lovers of carnival, wearing bright colours and spreading joy everywhere he went.

The bust, installed at Ġnien il-Mandraġġ, was inaugurated by Minister for Culture Owen Bonnici and Valletta mayor Olaf McKay.

‘Pawlu Curmi l-Pampalun was known in various sectors, but most significantly for his contributions to Carnival’, said Minister Bonnici.

‘It is appropriate that a bust in his memory is inaugurated in Valletta so that il-Pampalun’s memory is remembered generation after generation.’
