Brits Still Can’t Get Enough Of Malta: UK Most Popular Tourists Visiting Islands

October marked the end of summer for the aviation sector, with Malta International Airport welcoming its first flights from Gothenburg and Palma de Mallorca during the final weekend of the month.

Earlier in October, three weekly flights to Tirana in Albania were also launched, providing additional options for travellers during the off-peak season and supporting the airport’s objective of maintaining strong year-round connectivity.
The airport now offers flights to 86 destinations, with the United Kingdom remaining the most popular market, accounting for one fifth of the 978,445 passenger movements recorded in October.

Italy was the second best-performing market, showing modest growth of 1.0% over 2024.
Rome Fiumicino and Catania Fontanarossa, both served by daily flights, were the most visited Italian airports. Germany followed in third place, with just over 84,000 passengers, primarily travelling via Munich and Frankfurt.
Poland was the fastest-growing market in October, with a 60.6% increase over 2024, while France completed the top five markets.
Despite a 17.3% increase in seat capacity compared to last year, the seat load factor remained strong at 86.1%, reflecting sustained travel demand.
Looking ahead to the winter season, insights from the European Travel Commission indicate that Mediterranean destinations have grown in popularity by 7% compared to last year.
Additionally, stable and pleasant weather is increasingly influencing Europeans’ travel decisions during the off-peak months.
