British Site Metro Highlights Gozo As 2026’s Top Destination

With red sands, ancient temples and year-round sunshine, Gozo has been named one of Europe’s rising travel stars for 2026, with British media now shining a spotlight on the island’s growing appeal.

UK outlet Metro has highlighted Gozo as a must-visit destination for the coming year, following new data from TravelSupermarket which shows the island topping its list of top trending holiday destinations for 2026. Searches for Gozo surged by a staggering 1,900%, transforming it from what the site described as “an afterthought” into a genuine bucket-list location.

The site described Gozo as “what Malta used to be like”, presenting it as a calmer, more relaxed alternative to its bustling sister island.

TravelSupermarket’s head of holidays and deals, Chris Webber, attributed the surge in interest to Malta’s growing popularity overall. The country welcomed a record 3.56 million tourists in 2024, encouraging many visitors to look beyond Malta’s main island and discover Gozo “just next door”.
