Breast Cancer; It’s Not Just A Woman’s Problem

We’re starting off with a dive into breast cancer, in honour of October being breast cancer awareness month.
It’s not just a woman’s problem, and dismantling this misconception can save lives!
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer throughout their lifetime, whilst 1 in 726 men will face the same diagnosis.
The statistics speak for themselves; it is something with predominantly affects women.
However, 7.26% of men is still a lot.
It’s important to inform ourselves about what the predispositions for these conditions in the case of both genders.
Early periods, late menopause and history of ovarian family in the family can skyrocket a woman’s chances of breast cancer.
Men who’ve had testicular disease or surgery increases their risk of the diagnosis.
Interestingly, a condition called Klinefelter syndrome which appears in men also increases their chances of breast cancer. This is a rare condition caused by extra X chromosomes in males.
There are 20,000 new cases of male breast cancer every year, and many of them experience late diagnosis due to shame and embarrassment.
