BREAKING: PM Robert Abela Announces General Election
Local

Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that Malta will head to a general election on the 30th of May 2026, stating that the country needs a renewed mandate to navigate increasingly uncertain global conditions.

In an address, PM Abela said the decision comes at a crucial moment, as international instability, particularly linked to tensions in the Middle East, continues to impact energy security and economic outlooks.

He argued that the coming months will be decisive and require a government fully focused on national priorities.

The Prime Minister emphasised that his administration has ensured financial stability and long-term planning, allowing Malta to avoid energy price hikes seen elsewhere.

He pledged that utility bills and fuel prices will remain stable, with government reserves in place to support this commitment.

Dr Abela said the election will allow voters to choose a government capable of maintaining stability while advancing an ambitious vision for the country’s future, with a stronger focus on quality of life and wellbeing.
