BREAKING: Minister Roderick Galdes Resigns

Former Minister Roderick Galdes has officially tendered his resignation from his role as Minister for Social and Affordable Accommodation, submitting a formal letter to Prime Minister Robert Abela in the past hours.
In a statement, Galdes said his decision followed what he described as coordinated attacks aimed at undermining his political career, as well as personal attacks directed at him and members of his family. He maintained that throughout his political career he had consistently placed the interests of the Labour Party first. Galdes stated that he is confident he has done nothing wrong and remains calm regarding the allegations made against him, but said he did not wish for these claims to detract from the work of the Government.
He added that it was in these circumstances alone that he decided to step down from his ministerial role, which he said he had carried out with duty and loyalty. Galdes also indicated that he will seek to ensure that the full truth emerges, with the aim of defending his integrity and clearing his name from the allegations.

In a separate statement, the Office of the Prime Minister confirmed that Galdes formally informed Prime Minister Robert Abela of his resignation from his ministerial post, which was accepted. The Office reiterated that Galdes insists he has done nothing wrong but chose to resign so as not to, in any way, tarnish the work of the Government in favour of the Maltese and Gozitan people. It was also confirmed that Galdes’ resignation letter is being made public.
