BRAZILIAN MAN ARRESTED AT MALTA AIRPORT OVER €125,000 COCAINE IMPORTATION

A 23-year-old Brazilian man has been arrested at Malta International Airport in connection with the importation of around one kilogram of a substance suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of approximately €125,000.

In a joint investigation involving various sections of the Police Force and intelligence-led policing, authorities identified the suspect as part of an operation targeting the alleged importation of a significant quantity of drugs into Malta.

Based on gathered intelligence, the man was believed to be arriving in Malta overnight between Friday and Saturday on a flight from Barcelona. Upon landing and entering the arrivals hall, he was stopped by police officers and searched.

During the inspection, officers noticed a suspicious object concealed under his shirt. Further examination revealed a package taped to his abdomen, which allegedly contained around one kilogram of a substance believed to be cocaine.

The suspect is being held in police custody for further investigations and is expected to be arraigned in court today at around 11am before Magistrate Dr Tanya Sammut LL.D, facing charges related to the alleged importation of drugs.
