Bormla Grove to offer new green community space with €1.6 million investment

A new open green space is taking shape in Bormla, with the €1.6 million Bormla Grove project set to provide a modern recreational area designed for families, sports enthusiasts and nature lovers.
The project was visited by Miriam Dalli, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, members of the Bormla Local Council and the Project Green team, as works continue on the 53,000-square-metre site.
Once completed, the park will feature a mountain-biking network designed for riders of different skill levels, dedicated pet-friendly zones, and children’s play areas incorporating environmental elements. The project also includes the planting of 64 trees and 173 shrubs, aimed at enhancing biodiversity while improving air quality and the locality’s urban environment.
Minister Dalli described the initiative as a clear example of rethinking public open spaces to bring nature closer to communities while encouraging healthier and more active lifestyles.
“This is about creating a vibrant and inclusive environment where families, children and young people can spend quality time together,” she said.
Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi highlighted the role of European funding in delivering sustainable community projects, noting that Bormla Grove forms part of a wider €13 million national initiative covering 10 sites across Malta.
Bormla Mayor Marco Agius welcomed the development, saying it marks another important step in expanding accessible open spaces for residents in the south of Malta.
