Blast From The Past: What "Suq tal-Belt" Used To Look Like

“Is-Suq tal-Belt” is one of Valletta's most iconic landmarks, now home to a wide variety of restaurants and bars. But have you ever wondered what it looked like decades ago?
A nostalgic photo shared by Lino Maniscalco in the Facebook group “Nostalgia Malta” takes us back to the market's earlier days, with many users reminiscing about the memories they made there.

"Those were the greatest days," one commenter wrote. "As a child, I used to go there every morning before school to buy groceries for my mother. We were very happy kids."
Another user pointed out that “Tommy's Butcher,” visible on the left-hand side of the photo, was owned by their cousin. They added that their family once ran several establishments across Malta.
The vintage image has sparked plenty of nostalgia among locals, reminding many of a time when Is-Suq tal-Belt served as the heart of daily shopping in the capital.
