Battle Of The Podcasts: PN & Labour Take Politics To The Mic

Malta’s two primary political parties have both announced the launch of their own podcasts, signalling a renewed effort to modernise political communication, engage younger audiences, and adapt to changing media consumption habits as the country edges closer to a general election.
PN Leader Alex Borg launched TAMA, a new crowdfunding initiative he had pledged to introduce during his leadership campaign.
The first project to be funded through TAMA was the Nationalist Party’s first official podcast, aimed at sharing personal stories and ideas to illustrate how small actions can lead to broader change.
The initiative set a €15,000 target, which has since been reached following strong initial interest that briefly overwhelmed the online system.
In comments shared online, Borg said the project reflects a belief that political change is driven by collective effort rather than individuals, adding that the party seeks to channel renewed public engagement into tangible initiatives.
Meanwhile, during the Labour Party’s December fundraising marathon, it was announced that the party will soon launch its own podcast titled Isma Dean.
First unveiled last year, the project is now moving into production, marking Labour’s own step into long-form digital audio as part of its communication strategy.
The move mirrors a broader international trend. Political parties and figures across Europe and the United States increasingly use podcasts to bypass traditional media, humanise leadership, and speak directly to supporters.
From US election cycles to European parliamentary campaigns, podcasts have become a platform for longer conversations, storytelling, and policy discussion.
With podcast listenership continuing to rise globally, both Maltese parties appear to be positioning themselves within modern digital trends, using audio platforms as tools for regeneration, outreach, and message delivery in an evolving political landscape.
