"Basic Mistakes": Miriam Dalli Critiques PN's New Energy Proposals
Local

Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, along with a statement by the Labour Party, criticised the Nationalist Party over its recent energy proposals, describing them as flawed and lacking credibility.

The Opposition’s presentation revealed a number of basic errors, Dalli said, particularly in its calculations on potential savings from energy generated by solar panels.

She said that the projected savings were significantly overstated, claiming that the actual figures would amount to less than half of what was presented. Dalli also questioned the feasibility of the proposal, which suggests that a one-off investment of €60 million could generate annual savings of €30 million indefinitely.

Dalli maintained that such returns are unrealistic and not supported by standard economic reasoning.

She pointed to conflicting statements made by different Nationalist Party representatives, including remarks suggesting both the expansion and reduction of subsidies.

Businesses were not included in the proposed reductions, Dalli added, raising concerns about the broader economic impact. She contrasted this with the Labour government’s own record in government, stating that it has prioritised stability and affordability in energy pricing since 2013.
