Authorities Worked Through the Night as CPD Crews Battle Marsa Blaze
Local

The morning after what authorities described as a “Black Friday,” Civil Protection Malta crews continued responding to the industrial fire that broke out in Marsa yesterday. Officials confirmed this morning that firefighters had worked through the night, “battling against flame and darkness. Tireless hands, unwavering courage, still working, still standing,” as they operated in challenging conditions.

Throughout the night, CPD teams also made use of cranes and aerial platforms, which were essential to reach the highest and most hazardous sections of the scrap yard, ensuring the fire was fully contained and preventing further spread.

Although the fire had been contained by late yesterday, active firefighting operations were still underway this morning. Emergency teams remained deployed with heavy equipment, and the public was urged once again to avoid the area due to ongoing safety concerns.

Authorities warned commuters to reduce speed, keep lanes clear, and remain alert at all times, as fire crews and machinery continued operating in the surrounding zone.

Yesterday, Byron Camilleri reiterated that Civil Protection officials were on site battling the blaze at the Marsa scrap yard, urging residents to keep all windows and doors closed due to hazardous smoke emissions. Commuters were also asked to avoid the area to limit exposure.

Health authorities reminded the public that smoke inhalation may cause coughing, shortness of breath, eye irritation, sore throat, dizziness, fatigue, and other respiratory symptoms. Individuals with existing respiratory conditions, as well as children and older adults, were considered more vulnerable. Anyone experiencing symptoms was encouraged to seek medical guidance, with the Primary Care Telemedicine Service available on 21231231 for assistance.
