“Art for Active Ageing” Project Concludes With Celebration Of Senior Creativity

The “Art for Active Ageing” project, a collaboration between Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC) and the Southern Regional Council, has successfully concluded with an exhibition showcasing the creativity and talents of seniors living in the community.

The project aimed to enhance mental well-being and strengthen social connections among older adults through artistic activities designed to encourage reminiscence and self-expression while fostering interaction with fellow participants.
The programme included five sessions held across various Active Ageing Centres in the Southern Region, featuring activities that stimulated both creativity and memory. Participation was strong, with some sessions attended by more than 25 seniors.
The project concluded with an exhibition at the San Bastjan Parish Centre in Ħal Qormi, where artworks created by participants throughout the programme were displayed. The exhibition not only celebrated the seniors’ achievements but also highlighted the power of art to improve quality of life in later years.
During the event, Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Malcolm Paul Agius Galea said, “Art has the power to give a voice to those who are often unheard. This project has shown the skills, experiences, and stories that our seniors have to offer. Regional collaboration like this is an example of how we can continue to build inclusive and vibrant communities.”

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli added, “The ‘Art for Active Ageing’ project demonstrates the important role regional councils can play in promoting seniors’ well-being. We support initiatives like this that strengthen community spirit and keep older adults active and engaged in society.”
