Armed Forces Of Malta Intercept Boat Carrying Illegally Caught Tuna

The Armed Forces of Malta intercepted a boat yesterday in Marsaxlokk following an alert by the Malta Sea Ranger Unit.
The boat was reportedly carrying illegally caught Bluefin tuna.
An AFM patrol boat intercepted the vessel right as it entered the port before the vessel was towed and the illegal items were confiscated.
“We wish to thank the Maritime Squadron of the AFM for their swift action and professionalism,” stated the Malta Ranger Unit.
They proceeded to state that illegalities of this kind are common “due to lack of enforcement at sea during late hours.”
The unit called on the Maltese government to strengthen environmental protection, both on sea and on land.
