This morning, applications opened for anyone up to 30 years old interested in surrendering their license for €25,000.

Applicants will give up their license for 5 years, receiving €5,000 euro each year until their time is up.

Transport Malta have released details about what is expected of applicants. For instance, applicants are not allowed to drive a vehicle here or abroad.

If applicants are caught driving, they’ll be subject to criminal penalties applicable to unlicensed drivers, along with an additional €5,000 fine.

Once the five years are complete, applicants must undergo 15 hours of driving lessons with a licensed motoring school before applying for a new license.

Applications are open until the 30th of June 2026, and acceptance is based on a first-come-first-serve basis.
