On the 28th of January, applications for church schools will open, closing on the 4th February. They will open once again between the 11th and 18th February 2026.

There are a total of 799 vacant places available, 722 in Malta and an additional 77 in Gozo. Of these, 474 places are for girls and 248 for boys.

The highest number of vacant places is found in first year primary (270), followed by second year kindergarten (237). Fewer vacancies are recorded in first year secondary (122) and first year kindergarten (93).

In Gozo, there are 45 vacant places in first year kindergarten for boys and none for girls, in first year secondary, there are 15 spaces for boys, and an additional 17 spaces for girls.

Spots for asylum seekers will open in March, with 22 availabilities.
