Antvin Monseigneur Announces Bid For President Of The Sports Journalists Association

TVM Sport journalist Antvin Monseigneur, a member of PBS’s sports journalism team, has announced his candidacy for the position of President of the Sports Journalists Association (Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sport). The decision was communicated to members of the association earlier today.
In his message to members, Monseigneur said, “The time has come for us to make a greater collective effort to protect and strengthen sports media in our country.”

He explained that after being approached by several members of the association, he decided not to remain passive and to take this step. He emphasised that, together, “we can build a Sports Journalists Association that truly reflects the values of sports journalism and empowers journalists to be a strong, respected voice with a clear vision for the future.”
If elected, Monseigneur has pledged to undertake a range of initiatives, including: Amending the association’s statute to comply with Chapter 626 of Maltese law, ensuring transparency and professional governance, Removing the €200 accreditation fee for freelance MFA photographers, Providing job-shadowing opportunities with European institutions, Organising visits and meetings with Members of the European Parliament to strengthen synergies between sport and media, Launching a section on the association’s website for member articles and opinions, Accessing European funds, including Erasmus+, and expanding memberships beyond AIPS/AIPS Europe, Introducing an accredited Diploma course in sports journalism covering new technologies and AI, Maintaining the independence of National Sports Federations while strengthening collaboration with SportMalta, AIMS, and sponsors, Renovating and opening the headquarters in Valletta as a vibrant space for members and creativity, Enhancing transparency and accountability through regular communication, reporting, and member involvement before signing any agreements.
The Sports Journalists Association Annual General Meeting is expected to take place in the coming days.
