Another Budget, The Same Problems Says Alex Borg In First Reaction

Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg has argued that Budget 2027 fails to deliver the solutions that Maltese and Gozitan families, workers and businesses need to deal with the challenges they face every day.

In his initial reaction to the Budget, Borg said that while the PN welcomes measures that provide support to workers, people also expect improvements in their daily quality of life.

He said commuters will still face heavy traffic, families will continue struggling with rising grocery costs and many young people will remain uncertain about when they will be able to afford their first home.

Borg said the Government is now recognising the strain its economic model has placed on infrastructure and public services after thirteen years in office.

He argued that continued population growth has increased pressure on housing, roads, hospitals, schools, water and energy supplies, with people experiencing the consequences every day.

He questioned when traffic congestion would improve, when healthcare waiting lists would be reduced and how first-time buyers would find it easier to purchase a home.

The PN Leader also called for stronger support for businesses, saying they need help to invest in technology, improve workers' skills and offer better wages. He argued that higher tariffs alone would not make the economy more productive and warned that their impact on businesses and consumers should be carefully assessed.

Accompanied by Shadow Finance Minister Adrian Delia and Shadow Minister for the Economy, Technology and Capital Projects Darren Carabott, Borg said the PN would continue examining the Budget based on how it affects people's everyday lives and financial wellbeing.
