Animal Welfare Department Receives New Investment in Facilities & Equipment

The Animal Welfare Department has received new investment aimed at improving the environment for animals under its care while providing workers with better facilities and equipment to carry out their duties.
During a visit to the department, Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Alicia Bugeja Said observed the improvements introduced as part of the investment, which includes new kennels, air conditioning systems and machinery.
A total of 13 new kennels have been installed to strengthen the facilities available for dogs being cared for by the department. The investment is intended to provide a more suitable environment for the animals while helping the facility better respond to daily demands.
New air conditioning systems have also been introduced in the areas where cats are kept. The measure is particularly important during the summer months, when high temperatures can create additional challenges for animals staying at the facility.
The department has also invested in new machinery and equipment, which will support workers in their daily tasks and improve the care provided to animals.
Alicia Bugeja Said said the investment forms part of ongoing work to improve animal welfare standards. “When we invest in our facilities, we are investing directly in the quality of care provided to animals,” she said, adding that the improvements will benefit both animals and staff.
Animal Welfare Department Director Dennis Sciberras said the investment is already having a direct impact on daily operations and the conditions in which animals are kept. He said the new kennels, air conditioning systems and improved machinery will help staff work more efficiently while providing better surroundings for animals under their care.
