Animal Welfare Confirms Wild Cat Not On The Loose After Being Secure

Animal Welfare has confirmed that a wild cat reported earlier this week is not on the loose, after it was immediately secured by its owner.
A report was filed on Tuesday, prompting authorities to investigate the situation. Officials stated that the animal has not been roaming freely since that day, as it was instantly retrieved by the owner.
Authorities confirmed that no wild cat was at large yesterday and stressed that there is no cause for public alarm.
Police investigations remain ongoing, with the identity of the individual who filed the report remaining confidential.
Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media appears to show a wild cat descending multiple storeys from an open balcony before landing on the ground. The footage is being widely shared online, with the location suggested to be in the Cospicua area last Tuesday.
Authorities have not officially confirmed whether the video is directly linked to the reported case.
Sources indicate that the animal is not fully grown. However, officials stress that such an animal requires specialised care and facilities that cannot be provided within a residential home.
Malta does not currently have the necessary infrastructure to cater for this species, and steps are expected to be taken to relocate the animal to a suitable sanctuary abroad.
Animal Welfare and the relevant authorities continue to monitor the case closely.
