Andy Ellul To Take Over Affordable Housing Portfolio

Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul is set to take on the Affordable Housing portfolio after the resignation of Minister Roderick Galdes.
Speaking during an interview, Prime Minister Robert Abela made the announcement, saying that Ellul will be continuing the various works aimed at making homes affordable, especially for Maltese and Gozitan youth.
Last night, it was announced that Prime Minister Robert Abela had accepted the resignation of Roderick Galdes, with the now former Minister for Social and Affordable Housing issuing a statement in regards to his resignation.
In a statement, Galdes said his decision followed what he described as coordinated attacks aimed at undermining his political career, as well as personal attacks directed at him and members of his family.
He maintained that throughout his political career he had consistently placed the interests of the Labour Party first. Galdes stated that he is confident he has done nothing wrong and remains calm regarding the allegations made against him, but said he did not wish for these claims to detract from the work of the Government.
He added that it was in these circumstances alone that he decided to step down from his ministerial role, which he said he had carried out with duty and loyalty. Galdes also indicated that he will seek to ensure that the full truth emerges, with the aim of defending his integrity and clearing his name from the allegations.
In a separate statement, the Office of the Prime Minister confirmed that Galdes formally informed Prime Minister Robert Abela of his resignation from his ministerial post, which was accepted.
