Over 40 People Found Drink Driving This Year So Far

Between the 1st and 20th of December, 271 road checks have occurred with a total of 7,932 vehicles stopped.

These resulted in 4 people being found driving under the influence of alcohol.

In a separate inspection, police noticed a car driving unsafely. The driver did not comply with police instructions and apparently abandoned his vehicle at the side of the road. He was later arrested.

The police also arrested a person found driving without a license twice in the same day. He pleaded not guilty and was released.

Many were also penalised for having too many passengers in the car and not wearing a seatbelt.

It was released that a total of 43 people were found driving under the influence of alcohol between January and November, following 2,711 road checks and 58,850 vehicles stopped.

The police will continue to carry out road checks this evening, ensuring anyone on the road is fit to drive and being safe.
