All Civil Protection Malta Members Obtain Internationally Recognised Certification

All members of Malta's Civil Protection Department have now obtained the internationally recognised NFPA 1001 certification, marking a significant milestone for the country's emergency services.

The qualification is a globally recognised standard that confirms high levels of training, competence and safety in firefighting.

The announcement was made by Minister for Home Affairs and Security Glenn Bedingfield during his first official visit to the Civil Protection Department.

Addressing department members, the Minister described the certification as much more than a formal qualification, saying it demonstrates that every firefighter has been trained to international standards and is prepared to respond to emergencies with professionalism, competence and confidence.

He said the achievement reflects years of investment in personnel, training, technology and equipment.

Bedingfield added that the Government remains committed to investing in the department's workforce and ensuring firefighters have the resources needed to continue delivering a high quality service to the public.

The Minister also thanked Civil Protection Department members for their dedication, particularly following their intensive work in recent days responding to several fires and other emergencies during the recent spell of high temperatures.

During his visit, Bedingfield referred to the latest World Bank report on Malta's emergency preparedness and response, which praised the Civil Protection Department for its professionalism, specialised capabilities and strong coordination with other first responder entities.

He said the international recognition confirms that Malta has a well-trained department capable of responding effectively to both routine incidents and more complex emergencies, adding that the Government and the people of Malta are proud of the work carried out by the country's firefighters.
