Alex Borg Vows To Resign If Metro Project Isn’t Operational In 5 years

When discussing PN’s proposed Mass Transit System, Opposition leader Alex Borg stated that he is confident the party can complete the first metro line within five years.
“I’m so sure that in the first 5 years we’ll finish the first line, that if we don’t achieve this, I am ready to resign,” emphasised Borg.
According to PN’s electoral programme, the first phase would include 8 stations, 10 operational trains and an investment of around €1.4 billion.
“This is how sure I am of the team of technicians that we have fronting this project,” continued Borg.
He explained that his confidence stems from the team leading the project, as well as the number of studies and reports already carried out on the proposal.
“I am putting my own career on the line that if we don’t finish it in 5 years, I’ll resign,” reinstated Borg.
Eventually, a second phase of the project will ensue, seeing an additional investment of €2.5 billion.
The party says the service would be free for Maltese and Gozitan residents and would be integrated with buses, fast ferries, feeder routes, park & rides, taxis, shuttle services and mobility hubs.
This exchange occurred during yesterday’s event organised at Il-Każin, in collaboration with the Times of Malta.
The event was supposed to be a debate, however PM Robert Abela declined the invitation. Borg still attended and answered the questions posed to him.
