Alex Borg Visits Maritime MT Where He Proposes To Strengthen Maritime Sector

Opposition Leader Alex Borg has outlined a series of proposals aimed at strengthening Malta’s maritime sector during a recent visit to Maritime MT, as part of activities marking Workers’ Day.

Borg said the Partit Nazzjonalista envisions closer collaboration between Maritime MT and MCAST, potentially forming a more unified institution offering specialised courses. He reiterated plans to reform Transport Malta by dividing it into three separate authorities covering land, aviation and maritime sectors.

Highlighting the sector’s untapped potential, Borg said it could contribute more significantly to the economy while creating high-quality jobs. He pledged the creation of a dedicated maritime authority and confirmed that students at Maritime MT would receive stipends equivalent to those in other post-secondary institutions.

He also proposed introducing maritime-related subjects at secondary school level to encourage early interest. Maritime MT CEO Pauline Micallef welcomed the proposals, stressing the need for greater investment and awareness.
