Alex Borg To Contest Nationalist Party Leadership Uncontested

Alex Borg is the only member to have submitted an expression of interest for the post of Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista following the closing of the application period at 6.00 pm yesterday, the party's Electoral, Records and Data Commission has announced.

In accordance with Article 90a of the PN Statute, the call for expressions of interest remained open for seven days, beginning on 24 June and ending today.

The process was launched after the PN General Council initiated the leadership election procedure one week ago.

Following the receipt of Alex Borg's declaration of interest, the Electoral Commission referred the application to the party's Candidates Commission, which is now responsible for carrying out the required due diligence checks.

Once these verifications have been completed, the Candidates Commission will submit its findings to both the PN Administrative Council and the Electoral Commission. The report will confirm whether the applicant satisfies the criteria established by the party's statute.

If the due diligence process is successfully concluded, the Electoral Commission will open the official nomination period within three days.

Nominations will remain open for five days, during which only the candidate who expressed interest and successfully passed the verification process will be eligible to submit a formal nomination.
