Alex Borg Hits Out at Government Over Weekend Power Cuts

PN Leader and Opposition Leader Alex Borg has criticised the government over continued power cuts across Malta and Gozo, questioning Prime Minister Robert Abela’s absence during what he described as a serious electricity crisis.

In a video posted on Facebook, Borg said he had spoken to business owners, residents, elderly people and vulnerable individuals affected by outages during the intense summer heat.

“Where is the Prime Minister? Where is Robert Abela?” Borg asked, arguing that Abela had remained largely absent while families and businesses continued to experience disruptions to their electricity supply.

Borg also defended Enemalta employees, saying workers were spending long hours in difficult conditions repairing faults and restoring power. He accused the government of attempting to shift responsibility onto workers rather than acknowledging political failures.

The Opposition Leader said Malta’s electricity problems were not new, pointing out that similar outages had occurred during previous summers despite repeated warnings about the need for stronger infrastructure and long-term planning.

Borg also placed responsibility on Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, saying she had overseen the sector for several years and should be held politically accountable.

He called for greater investment, serious planning and a reliable electricity distribution system capable of meeting Malta’s growing demands.
