Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg, who was elected in September 2025, has held meetings with representatives from the Malta Employers’ Association and the General Workers’ Union (GWU) to discuss proposals ahead of the 2026 Budget.

Borg said Malta needs a long-term vision to ensure that no one is left behind. He called for an economy built on quality rather than quantity, he highlighted the importance of fair wages and pensions, including for those born before 1962. He also proposed that the cost-of-living increase should not be taxed, and that the first €10,000 earned through overtime and part-time work should remain tax-free.

The Opposition leader stressed that both the tourism industry and the private sector should focus on quality growth, not just expansion. He also underlined the need to improve connectivity between Malta and Gozo, and to introduce property incentives to help families and workers.

Borg said the Nationalist Party is committed to supporting every worker and household, and to building a sustainable and fair future for the country.
