Alex Borg Praises Malta’s Global Role During SiGMA Summit in Rome

Opposition and PN Leader Alex Borg addressed thousands of delegates on the third day of the SiGMA Central Europe Summit 2025 in Rome, after being warmly welcomed to the Fiera Roma by SiGMA founder Eman Pulis.
During his keynote speech, Borg praised SiGMA’s growth from its Maltese beginnings into a major global platform for gaming, technology and digital innovation, describing the event as “a city that marries tradition and innovation, much like our industry today.” He reflected on the evolution of Europe’s iGaming landscape, noting that the future of the sector depends on three key pillars; Trust, Talent, and Technology.
“Trust starts with regulation, reputation and integrity. Jurisdictions that have built predictable and credible frameworks have not only created marketplaces, they have built ecosystems,” Borg said. He also highlighted the importance of nurturing skills and attracting talent, describing iGaming as “a fully-fledged digital services industry, data science, cybersecurity, payments, UX and machine learning.”
On technology, Borg stressed that “innovation is the key differentiator”, adding that growth and responsibility must go hand in hand through advances such as AI, blockchain, and safer-play tools.
Borg pointed to Malta’s pioneering role, noting that “over twenty years ago, Malta was among the first countries to regulate remote gaming, a bold move that established an economic reality which became an important player in the national economy.” He concluded by encouraging regulators, operators, and educators across Europe to work together toward a shared vision: “Let us continue to build an iGaming and digital economy Europe can be proud of innovative, exciting, responsible and rich in opportunity.”
Following his address, Alex Borg toured the exhibition floor, visiting stands of Maltese companies and international operators based in Malta, and met with many Maltese professionals attending the summit. He also spoke exclusively to MaltaDaily about how proud he feels seeing Maltese companies achieve global success and represent Malta on the international stage.
