Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg has continued to outline his party’s vision for Gozo, pledging major investment in health, infrastructure, education and culture during a political activity in Għajnsielem.

Borg stressed that Gozo should no longer be treated as an afterthought but placed at the centre of national policy. He presented a series of proposals forming part of a wider plan aimed at improving the quality of life for Gozitans, including the long-promised construction of a new 400-bed hospital. He said work would begin immediately under a Nationalist Government, alongside plans for a 24-hour health centre in Rabat.

Infrastructure featured prominently, with a commitment to invest in 150 kilometres of roads from the first day in office. Borg also pledged improvements in connectivity through two new vessels linking Malta and Gozo, including a passenger service and a dedicated cargo vessel, supported by upgrades to port infrastructure.

Further proposals include €9 million for theatres, €2 million for youth centres, and €8 million for facilities at the Ta’ Sannat school, including a hydropool and sensory area. Borg emphasised that the plan prioritises inclusion, particularly for neurodivergent individuals.

Other speakers highlighted challenges such as mental health stigma, lack of resources for local councils, limited job opportunities, and the daily struggles faced by students commuting between islands. Borg concluded by calling for a “Fresh Start” for the country, centred on investment in people and long-term national development.
