Alex Borg On 9 Out Of 10 Under-35s Own Their Home PM Claim

In a video shared to social media, Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg said that Prime Minister Robert Abela is detached and believes his own lies after he said that nine out of ten people under the age of 35 own their own home.

He quoted a recent fact check by Times of Malta which found the claim, made in an interview by the Prime Minister with Lovin Malta, to be misleading.

‘The data Abela cited refers to households, not individuals’, the fact-check reports. ‘It shows that 91% of households in which all members are under the age of 35 own their own home, but it does not factor in people under 35 who live with their parents or other older adults, a common phenomenon in Malta.’

Borg said that the Maltese need a prime minister who knows the challenges being faced by many people who wish to become their own home-owners.

‘It has become very difficult to own a home given the challenges, considering especially the salaries’, he said. ‘Youth need someone who offers them solutions, not someone who closes the door in their face.’
