Alex Borg Officially Sworn In as Malta’s Leader of the Opposition

Alex Borg has been officially sworn in as Malta’s Leader of the Opposition by President Myriam Spiteri Debono.

Under the Maltese Constitution, the position of Leader of the Opposition is a constitutional role that can only be appointed by the President, similar to the rules governing the appointment of the Prime Minister.

At just 30 years old, Borg becomes the youngest leader of a major political party in Malta’s history.

Borg first entered Parliament in 2022, immediately making his mark after securing over 6,000 first-count votes in his home district of Gozo—a personal mandate among the highest in recent years.

His appointment marks a new chapter for the Nationalist Party, with Borg expected to bring fresh energy and perspectives to the role as he leads the opposition in Parliament.
