Opposition leader, Alex Borg, has praised the growth of Malta’s gaming sector, describing it as clear evidence of how long-term political vision can generate quality employment and sustained economic success.

During a visit to the National Lottery offices in Imrieħel, Borg said the decision by a previous Nationalist-led government to privatise the former Lotto Department marked a turning point that paved the way for today’s thriving industry.

He noted that this vision continues to bear fruit, adding that Malta now requires “a fresh government” capable of driving further progress.

The National Lottery is operated by IZIGROUP, which employs around 550 people and has expanded its services both in retail outlets and online.

Chief Commercial Officer Franco De Gabriele said the sector’s continued growth brings challenges, including the need for skilled workers and maintaining competitiveness.

Borg stressed that a future Nationalist government would prioritise strengthening the gaming industry while creating more high-quality career opportunities, alongside attracting new economic sectors to benefit Malta and Gozo.
