ALEX BORG HIGHLIGHTS ‘DRIVE LESS, PAY LESS’ PLAN AT SAN PAWL IL-BAĦAR MASS RALLY

Speaking at a mass rally in San Pawl il-Baħar, Alex Borg placed the spotlight on the Nationalist Party’s “Drive Less, Pay Less” proposal, describing it as a practical measure to reward sustainable choices while helping ease traffic pressures.
Borg said the proposal forms part of the party’s wider vision to place families back at the centre of Maltese politics and create long-term solutions for the next generation.
Under the scheme, motorists who drive up to 500 kilometres a year would pay no licence fee at all. Those driving between 500 and 5,000 kilometres annually would benefit from reduced licence fees, capped at no more than 80 per cent of what they currently pay. Drivers exceeding 5,000 kilometres would continue paying the current standard rate.
Borg said the measure recognises and rewards those who make more sustainable transport choices, while helping reduce congestion and giving people more time in their daily lives.
He linked the proposal to the PN’s broader plans to tackle Malta’s traffic challenges through both immediate and long-term solutions, including a mass transport project that he said would begin operating within the party’s first five years in government.
Addressing wider national pressures, Borg said Malta must plan sustainably for future population growth while investing in infrastructure, healthcare and energy, insisting the PN’s proposals are designed to deliver concrete solutions rather than empty promises.
