Alex Borg Claims Labour Copy Nationalist Party's Proposals During Today's Debate

During the political debate, Alex Borg strongly criticised the Labour Government, arguing that many of its proposals were originally put forward by the Nationalist Party.
Speaking about education and opportunities for students, Borg highlighted that Malta’s participation in the ERASMUS programme was made possible because the PN pushed for Malta’s European Union membership in 2004.
He also promoted the PN’s proposal to increase student stipends by 25% and introduce tax cuts for graduates during their first five years of employment.
Turning to environmental issues, Borg responded to remarks made by Prime Minister Robert Abela regarding petrol stations by recalling the efforts of the late Conrad Borg Manche, former mayor of Gżira, who fought against the construction of a petrol station in the middle of a public garden.
Borg accused the Government of failing to deliver several promised environmental projects and pledged that a PN Government would prioritise investing in open spaces within local communities.
He also outlined plans for Malta’s future infrastructure, promising that the first phase of a mass transport system would be implemented within one legislature.
Borg concluded by defending the PN’s tax reduction proposals, saying lower taxes for individuals and businesses would stimulate spending and strengthen the economy.
Closing his speech, Borg appealed for respectful political discussion, stating that he attacks “the message and not the person,” while expressing respect for fellow participants Sandra Gauci, Robert Abela, Arnold Cassola and Paul Salomone. He also urged the public not to boo during debates but instead “go out and vote.”
