Alex Borg Calls On President To Oversee Chief Justice Appointment Process

Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg has issued a statement revealing that he has called upon President Myriam Spiteri Debono to oversee the process of nominating and appointing a Chief Justice.

Borg said that the President should attend every meeting between him and Prime Minister Robert Abela pertaining to this nomination.

‘I believe that the President of Malta is, in such circumstances, the best person to defend the constitution of Malta and the processes related to it’, said Borg.

He said that the President should also do the same when it comes to the appointing of an Auditor General.

He said that he has done this ‘in light of the various false declarations pertaining to the discussions between the Prime Minister and himself’ in regards to the Chief Justice issue.

‘The process has lost all of its importance and credibility because it is no longer about who will be Chief Justice, but about whether the Maltese people trust the Prime Minister with his actions.’
