Alex Borg Calls For Renewal As PN Launches Leadership Selection Process

The Nationalist Party has formally launched the process to confirm its leader, with Alex Borg using the opening of the party's General Council to outline his vision of renewal and position the PN as a credible alternative government.
Addressing councillors, Borg said the General Council marked the beginning of the party's next chapter, insisting that the focus should not remain on the electoral defeat but on building for the future.
While acknowledging the election result, he highlighted gains made by PN, including more than 13,000 additional votes, victories in six electoral districts and a stronger showing in Gozo, describing them as evidence that the party had regained momentum.
Borg pledged that, by the next general election, the Nationalist Party would be closer to the people than ever before, with a stronger presence in every locality and community.
He said the party must offer practical solutions on issues including the cost of living, housing, healthcare, education, traffic and the environment, while continuing to rebuild trust in institutions.
Seeking councillors' backing to remain leader, Borg also proposed organisational reforms, including the creation of two deputy leader posts. He said PN's mission is to serve as both a serious Opposition and a government-in-waiting, declaring: "I believe in this Party, I believe in our Malta and Gozo."
